Find your S.A.M.E. county code

A S.A.M.E. code is a six-digit county ID. Program it into a NOAA weather radio and the radio wakes only for alerts that touch your county. Codes below are the National Weather Service list, read 24 August 2026.

What the code does, and how to enter it

A NOAA weather radio hears every alert its transmitter carries, and most of them are for counties that are not yours. The six-digit code tells the radio which counties to wake for, so the alert tone means «this one is about you» instead of «weather exists somewhere».

  1. Hold MENU on the radio until the display blinks.
  2. Pick SAME SET (on our desktop NOAA radio: MENU → arrows to SAME → SELECT).
  3. Enter the six digits with the arrow keys, confirm with SELECT.
  4. Add neighbor counties the same way if storms usually arrive from one side.
  5. Run WEEKLY TEST once: NOAA sends test alerts every week, and hearing one proves the code took.
